My California license

I live in Florida, so California licenses me as a non-resident, and the California record says so: Non-resident. Both lines on it, Life and Accident & Health or Sickness, were issued August 25, 2026, and the record lists no orders or disciplinary actions.

Medigap in California

Your Medigap Open Enrollment Period lasts six months and starts the first month you have Medicare Part B and you're 65 or older. During it you can buy any Medigap policy sold in your state, and the insurance company can't deny you coverage because of pre-existing health problems. It doesn't repeat every year.

California law sets the same six months, starting the first month you're 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. If you have Medicare because of a disability, it gives you six months of open enrollment after you enroll in Part B.

California adds a yearly window of its own. If you have a Medigap policy, you get an open enrollment period of at least 60 days every year, starting on your birthday. In it you can buy any Medigap policy with the same or fewer benefits than the one you have, and the insurer can't turn you down or charge you more because of your health. Your insurer has to tell you about this right 30 to 60 days before the window opens.
