California licensed me in August 2026 (license 4524185), and I've been a Licensed Insurance Agent since 2009. We can sort out your Medicare by phone or Google Meet, including California's yearly birthday window for Medigap. Look me up on the state's search, then set up a call.

My California license
I live in Florida, so California licenses me as a non-resident, and the California record says so: Non-resident. Both lines on it, Life and Accident & Health or Sickness, were issued August 25, 2026, and the record lists no orders or disciplinary actions.
These explain how each kind of coverage works in general. They don't list which plans are sold in your area.
Unbiased Medicare help in California
Your State Health Insurance Assistance Program isn't connected to any insurance company or health plan. That makes it a good place to double-check anything an agent tells you, me included.

In California the State Health Insurance Assistance Program is HICAP, from the California Department of Aging. It gives confidential one-on-one help with Medicare, long-term care insurance and other health insurance questions, including appeals, for people 65 or older and for people under 65 with Medicare because of a disability.
The department regulates Medicare Supplement policies in California and helps with complaints about premium rates, claims handling and problems with agents or companies. Its Consumer Hotline answers questions or helps you file a complaint, and it runs the search where you can look me up.
Your Medigap Open Enrollment Period lasts six months and starts the first month you have Medicare Part B and you're 65 or older. During it you can buy any Medigap policy sold in your state, and the insurance company can't deny you coverage because of pre-existing health problems. It doesn't repeat every year.
California law sets the same six months, starting the first month you're 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. If you have Medicare because of a disability, it gives you six months of open enrollment after you enroll in Part B.
California adds a yearly window of its own. If you have a Medigap policy, you get an open enrollment period of at least 60 days every year, starting on your birthday. In it you can buy any Medigap policy with the same or fewer benefits than the one you have, and the insurer can't turn you down or charge you more because of your health. Your insurer has to tell you about this right 30 to 60 days before the window opens.
