My Washington license

I live in Florida, so my Washington license is a non-resident license, and the Washington record shows my Florida address. The Insurance Commissioner's record also shows no orders issued against me since 2010.

What my Washington license covers

Washington lists two lines on my license: life, and disability. Disability is the state's legal term, and its insurance code defines disability insurance as insurance against bodily injury, disablement or death by accident, against disablement resulting from sickness, and every insurance appertaining thereto (RCW 48.11.030).

These explain how each kind of coverage works in general. They don't list which plans are sold in your area.

Medigap in Washington

In Washington, the time to sign up for Medigap is the first six months you're 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. If you're under 65, you might not be able to buy the Medigap plan you want, or any Medigap plan, until you turn 65.

Washington adds a switching rule. If you already have a Medigap plan B through N, you can switch at any time to another plan B through N, and if you have plan A you can switch to another plan A, in either case without a written health screening questionnaire. Moving to Medigap from some other kind of health plan can still mean one.
